with breaking news on an alleged murder/suicide involving aye player on the kansas city chiefs football team. kansas city affiliate kctv reports the player who has not been identified allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend then drove to a practice facility at the team's arrow head stadium and shot and killed himself. the second shooting occurred at 7:50 a.m. local time at the team's facility. it was linked to an earlier shooting off site. we're going to be keeping you updated and tracking this story as it develops which is expected to over the course of the next few hours. >>> also breaking news out of florida. there's been a deadly bus crash at the miami international airport. our affiliate wplg says the bus carrying 32 passengers crashed into an overpass at the arrival terminal. two people are reported dead. 30 people were hospitalized, 30 of them with critical injuries. we'll bring you details of that story also as they come into us at cnn. >>> he's wanted for questioning and now a pioneer turned fugitive john mcafee is giving what our veteran reporter says is one of most bizarre interv

a special plan by the city to convert the memorial, here is part of what this city official told residents. the thousands of flowers, letters and prayers, the signs and photos, teddy bears and more will be gathered and processed into soil that will serve in the foundation of a future permanent memorial to honor the slain children and adults. officials say it will be a sacred memorial. the items will be collected and converted starting this week. >>> now, new information on that tragic shooting in upstate new york on christmas eve. two firefighters were shot and killed. two others were wounded, after responding to a call that a house was on fire. today we're learning more about the shooter, william spengler. police say the 62-year-old set fire to his sister's house, and then shot the firemen. police think he also killed his sister, her body was found in the burnt home. spengler left a suicide note. and here's part of it. i still have to get ready to see how much of the neighborhood i can burn down and do what i like doing best, killing people. but why he did it, police say they may never kn

live to the white house for that. also, as the city grieves over an nfl player's tragic breaking point, new debates today about gun control and domestic violence. you'll hear both. but first, the u.s. has long believed syria has a huge stockpile of chemical weapons. now new concerns that chemical arsenal is on the move. secretary of state hillary clinton today issuing another stern warning against syria, using these weapons. the syrian foreign ministry quick to respond here saying it would not use chemical weapons against its people if it had any, but this announcement as turkey is sending warplanes to its border with syria after the syrian military bombed a nearby town of ras al-ain. you can hear that and see the smoke. this is the turkish side of the border. this is fueling more fears that more of syria's violence will spill into its neighbor to the north, being turkey. security concerns are prompting the u.n. to announce it is pulling nonessential personnel out of syria. want to bring in fran townsend, our cnn national security contributor and member of the cia external advisory com

whitfield. >> kansas city chiefs jovan belcher has committed suicide after allegedly killing his girlfriend. he allegedly shot his girlfriend multiple times at the couple's home. the paper said the two had been arguing. he then drove to a practice facility at the chiefs arrowhead stadium, woalked up to had coac and general manager, thanks them for what they had done for him, then shot himself in the head. joining us, nfl senior reporter, don banks. what do you know of this? how do you put it into perspective? >> it's a pretty unique situation in terms of nfl history. i think this is really the first time we have ever had this situation where a double murder and a player committing suicide the day before a game is scheduled in that stadium in that city. it's a tragedy. i think the nfl is little bit working without a map because they never had a situation quite this immediate to deal with, and quite this tragic. >> and what is so incredible about this is clearly, by thanking, reportedly, his coach and the general manager, i mean, they must be replaying that moment, you know, when he pulled th

the city today. this week crowds of egyptians have now stormed the presidential palace, breaking through fences, fighting with security forces, trying to keep them back. now, the protesters, they are furious about several things. first of all, all concerning president mohammed morsi and this growing perception that he is making himself too powerful. cnn's reza sayah is in cairo. >> opposition factions back protesting against mohammed morrissey for nearly two weeks. most of the protests have been limited to tahrir square, but they're now going to the source of their anger, president morrissey, and his presidential palace. >> why come here? >> because it's -- we got fed up. >> he doesn't respect us. he don't want to listen to our demands. >> reporter: what's your message to him by coming out here? >> that what he is doing is completely unfair. this is not what we asked for. it's complete dictatorship. >> reporter: at one point there were tense moments when protests clashed with police and broke through a police barrier, but things called down pretty quickly. the president in no danger. he

pretty much impossible. let's show you why. the proposed construction would separate the west bank cities of bethlehem and ramallah from jerusalem. essentially cut the west bank in two. the area israel wants to develop is known as e-1. that stands for very simply east one, east of jerusalem, and it would connect the large israeli settlement town of maiale adumim. they have summoned israel's ambassadors to this country to condemn this plan. others also speaking out, including germany. a senior israeli government official says prime minister benjamin netanyahu has signed off only on planning and zoning for future construction on e-1, but the bulldozers have been there tearing up the ground yesterday. now, the palestinians, of course, see this as the ultimate threat to peace, and certainly a two-state solution. the chief negotiator says nblg e-1 would destroy the two-state solution, establishing east jerusalem as the capital of palestine and practically ends the peace process and any opportunity to talk about negotiations in the future. let's bring in fred plankin who joins us from east jeru

for children, a city, a country at war with itself. what kind of things are these little girls seeing beyond the school gates? >> translator: we as educators don't support one side or the other. our concern is for the child to learn. so we keep the school open and help with their fears. we can't do as much as before, but the key thing is to try to deal with their anxiety. >> reporter: up, down, left, right, two, three, four. out in the playground it's a p-e lesson. exercises including running to the wall, touching it and running back. here, the running's for fun, but beyond the school walls, a shell or mortar can land anywhere any time, running could be a matter of life and death. for obvious reasons the killing of small children and teachers in and around school buildings is pretty near the top of the news agenda at the moment. so it is in this educational district and the one next door alone in the past two weeks, 35 small children and two teach verse been killed. the security building next to the school was car bombed recently, leaving a staff candid about the problems they face here. >>

volumes this morning as the nation and the city of newtown remembered what happened one week ago today. rain drops, only rain drops were heard during this moment of silence. firefighters there in newtown, paying tribute to the 20 children, the 6, the 7-year-olds and the seven adults gunned down, for reasons we may never know. the reflections began at 9:30 this morning eastern time. the time that first call came in to 911. at least 29 states held a moment of silence, put their flags at half-staff. parts of the internet went silent. video gamers put down their consoles in unity and bells across connecticut sounded for each killed at sandy hook elementary school. [ bells tolling ] at the episcopal church in newtown, 28 tolls rang for each life lost, including the shooter's. 28 there. when the bells were still, the remembrances began. one inside the capital building in hartford. ♪ amazing grace how sweet the sound ♪ ♪ that saved a wretch like me ♪ ♪ i once was lost but now i'm found ♪ ♪ was blind but now i see ♪ >> the first lady also marked this day in a letter to newtown.
